CHAIRPERSON:
Betty Matheson, Northeastern Technical College 921-6900
MEETINGS:
The
Subcommittee meets on an as needed. Please contact the
Chairperson for the next scheduled meeting.
GOAL:
This
Subcommittee hopes to promote the benefits of voluntarism and use
the interagency network to more
efficiently
and effectively recruit volunteers.
ACTIVITIES:
Sponsor
of the CHESTERFIELD COUNTY CARES volunteer matching system, this
Subcommittee was formed in 1998. A database of volunteer
opportunities is updated periodically. Chesterfield County
Cares brochures are
distributed
throughout the county to encourage voluntarism. Citizens may
write or call into the Chesterfield County
Coordinating
Council office to learn of volunteer opportunities. The caller
may then give permission to have his or her
information
forwarded to the organizations in which they are interested in
volunteering. All training and screening of the new volunteer
is done by the participating organizations. This system was
designed, produced, and is maintained entirely through kind
donations.
Each
April, the Subcommittee sponsors a county wide recognition event to
honor volunteers during the national Volunteer Recognition Week.
The luncheon event is an opportunity for numerous smaller
organizations to recognize and honor the hard work of their
volunteers. The Subcommittee works to ensure that this event
is widely publicized. Through the combined
efforts
of the community agencies and the CCCC, it is hoped that this will
encourage more individuals to volunteer and get involved in the
community. The next Luncheon is scheduled for April 29, 2005.
